How to Make Spray Paint T-Shirts

One of the coolest trends right now is the DIY spray paint t-shirts that individuals are seen wearing everywhere.  I first discovered this trend online and fell in love with it.  I've never been a fan of tie dye t-shirts  so when I found a t-shirt that I could make and actually wear, I was really excited.

I'm over girls camp this year and thought it would be a fun idea if the girls all made their own spray paint t-shirt to bring to camp.  I knew the girls would love this project and couldn't wait to tell them about it.

I quickly got to work buying the supplies & products I needed to create this project.  I did a bunch of research and found that you can buy t-shirt spray paint at the craft store which is designed just for shirts.  As I purchased the products I discovered just how spendy it was going to be to purchase enough paint for all the girls.  I got what I thought was enough & brought it to the activity that night.

Once the activity began we quickly learned that the spray paint I had purchased was not enough.  The activity was something short of a nightmare.  The sprayers on the spray paint kept clogging, dripping & ran out extremely fast.  Only a few of the girls even got to paint their shirts.  At this point we decided to give up and try again another day.

Since this time I have done even more research & found that the very best way to spray paint a T-shirt is with your own homemade t-shirt paint.  It's less expensive & much more efficient.  All it takes is some Textile Medium & your favorite color of acrylic paint.  The mixture you make is one part acrylic paint to one part textile medium.  You then dump it in a water bottle and add about 4 parts water.  I found that this website was extremely helpful, http://mycrazyblessedlife.com/2012/06/19/make-your-own-fabric-spray-paint/.  I LOVE the way these t-shirts turned out and can't wait to make some more for my family party coming up!!
